Compare energy prices

Utilita Energy began in 2003, initially specialising in pay-as-you-go energy. This is a key part of the UK energy market as many domestic customers are obliged – particularly those in rented accommodation – to have a more expensive pay-as-you-go meter.

Based in Eastleigh, the company was founded by current CEO Bill Bullen, with a mission to offer more competitive tariffs to customers on restricted meters. Although not one of the UK’s ‘Big 6’ energy suppliers, Utilita is a big player in the UK energy market with over 800,000 customers which gives them a significant market share.

Utilita Energy installed the first smart meter in the UK in 2008. They are also one of the most technologically innovative energy suppliers, with a range of tools and apps available for customers to help monitor usage and reduce energy consumption.

A Guide to Utilita Energy

Utilita Energy is one of the UK’s leading independent electricity and gas suppliers. Their market share is currently around 3% and was increased in 2019 when they took over the customers of Our Power after they ceased trading.

Utilita Energy is best known for providing prepayment meter solutions and for leading the way in the transition with the energy sector to smart meters for domestic and commercial customers.

The company has an ‘Excellent’ rating on Trustpilot, based on over 37,000 customer reviews. The company scores 4.3 stars out of 5, with only 18% of feedback rated as negative.

Utilita Energy Prices and Tariffs

Utilita Energy provides business customers with fixed-rate tariffs, with a one-price system that means all businesses pay the same rate no matter the size of their company, energy usage or how they choose to pay.

Utilita Energy offers free smart meter installation for business customers.

Utilita Energy has partnered with Enterprise Nation to give its customers access to free business advice when you sign a twelve-month contract.

Switching to Utilita Energy from your existing supplier might feel overwhelming. With Business Energy, nothing could be simpler. You can compare energy prices with a range of business energy suppliers, including Utilita Energy, for a free no-obligation quote.

Green Performance

Utilita Energy’s current fuel mix includes 9% of energy from renewable sources. That is below average for UK energy suppliers. If you are looking for an eco-friendly energy retailer for your business energy tariff, they may not be the best option.

Nevertheless, Utilita Energy’s efforts to encourage the installation of smart meters is contributing to reduced consumption and increased ownership of energy consumption in businesses and households across the UK.

Awards

Utilita Energy is an award-winning energy supplier. Most recently, they have been commended for their mobile and web app My Utilita. The company won the top prize for ‘Best Energy Application’ in the uSwitch Awards in both 2018 and 2020.

Cancellation Policy

It’s important to note that business energy customers at Utilita Energy face paying a termination fee if they cancel a fixed-term contract prior to the renewal date. The supplier can also prevent you from moving if your contract is still active in some cases. If you have a deemed contract, you can move at any time. Those on a fixed-term contract can switch to a new supplier for free by informing Utilita Energy in writing that you wish to end your contract.

The way Utilita Energy calculates the termination fee is 20% of your average monthly energy bill multiplied by the number of months remaining in your fixed-term contract (starting from the date that your 30-day notice period expires).

Sounds complicated? By switching with Business Energy we can handle the whole process on your behalf and explain how to avoid fees and lower your business energy bills - so compare today and save.
