Compare energy prices

So Energy is perhaps one of the least well-known energy suppliers in the UK, but the company’s profile is growing steadily since they were founded in 2015. As of 2021, they have over 200,000 domestic customers across the UK.

One of the unique features of the company is its commitment to providing a single, fixed-fee tariff to all customers regardless of meter or location. To increase their services to customers, So Energy has partnered with a range of other companies such as HomeServe to provide free boiler cover for the first year. So Energy also collaborates with Morrison Data Services to contract the installation and maintenance of smart meters.

A Guide To So Energy

Despite having a limited range of tariff choices as compared to many of its competitors, So Energy has attracted many customers with its commitment to low prices, reliable customer service and a ‘green’ ethos. Their tariffs are repeatedly among the cheapest in the market.

Unlike many other energy suppliers, So Energy actively encourages customers to manage their accounts online and provides clear visibility to both their email addresses and contact numbers. They have good feedback for customer service in surveys conducted by Citizens Advice.

So Energy has a score of ‘Excellent’, 4.3 out of 5 stars, on the review site Trustpilot. This score is based on over 6,500 reviews. Only 5% of respondents rated the company with the most negative, ‘Bad’ rating.

Price & Tariffs

So Energy does not offer business tariffs at the time of writing. For domestic tariffs, they claim to be among the cheapest energy providers on the market. Currently, both the single rate and Economy 7 deals offer the same fixed-price rate for domestic customers.

Green Performance

So Energy provides 100% renewable electricity tariffs. Customers are also encouraged to play an active role in choosing renewable energy sources, and the company has offered online polls for current account holders to pick from solar, wind and other renewable generation.

So Energy has developed direct relationships with renewable energy companies to provide green energy that is fairly priced, however, the commitment to 100% renewable energy in all tariffs is achieved, as with all other UK suppliers, through the use of Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin certificates (REGOs) which offset non-renewable energy with electricity from cleaner sources.

In 2020, So Energy’s fuel mix was 36% wind, 27% solar, 23% biomass and 14% hydropower.

Awards

So Energy was named Energy Supplier of the Year at the Moneyfacts Consumer Awards in 2018. They were shortlisted in the 2020 uSwitch Energy Awards but did not win in any categories outright.

Cancellation Policy

If you have a fixed-rate domestic energy tariff, you will be eligible for exit fees unless you cancel your contract within forth-nine days to the end of the tariff’s competition date. You can cancel your contract by contacting the company via email or telephone on the details above.
