In October 2018, ScottishPower completed the sale of its last remaining gas plant, becoming 100% reliant on renewable energy sources within its supply chain.

Green Performance

ScottishPower is committed to investment in green performance, including innovations in green hydrogen. They announced their latest investment plan in 2020 to create a wide range of new employment opportunities in wind farms across the country, building on their existing network of 40 wind farms. The company claims to be the UK’s first 100% green energy company. 

ScottishPower offers green tariffs for domestic customers that are 100% renewable energy generated. However, business customers This is in contrast to many energy suppliers that are not upfront about the fuel mix of their green tariffs. Some energy companies sell tariffs as ‘green’, but the energy is from a mix of sources, including fossil fuels, but with green certificates bought to offset the carbon emissions.

Scottish Power offers a range of other ‘green’ services for small and medium-sized businesses including offering free smart meters, and electric vehicle charging services and are currently investing in air source heat pumps and solar panel technology to be able to sell to customers in the future.

Cancellation Policy 

Unfortunately, business energy customers face paying exit fees if they cancel an active contract prior to the renewal date. To switch you will need to inform ScottishPower in writing 30 days ahead of the date you intend to switch. The exit penalty will be factored into your final bill.

Keep an eye out for your renewal notice period letter which will inform you when you can switch for free. Nevertheless, if you have had your ScottishPower contract for more than a year, it may still be worth switching even after factoring in the cost of exit fees.
